Today my friend David Jackson and primed all of the vertical stabilizer parts with the Sherwin-Williams P60G2 acid wash primer Vans uses on their quickbuild kits. David spent part of his working life in the GM paint shop so knows his stuff with respect to spraying, to say nothing of his woodworking hobby and other vehicle spraying.
The SW instructions call for a 1.5 reducer catalyst to 1 primer mix ratio so we started with that. It may be, in part, that we were outdoors and the temperature and humidity were pretty high, but the primer did not flow on the parts as it should, drying almost immediately.
So we tried a little thinner mix that didn’t make much difference. In the end I think we had too much primer on the parts but as it was just the stabilizer I’m not panicked, figuring to just keep thinning as I go along.
So here are some pictures of the primed parts. These were taken once we were back in the shop as there are no cameras under the side shed posing as a paint booth.
