Today I completed steps 7 and 8 on page 9-6 and also steps 1 through 3 on page 9-7. Clecoing all these parts together uses way more than 350 clecos as recommended in the tools required section. As a consequence, you need to move clecos around to observe the instruction to “cleco all holes” when final drilling all the E-1007 and E-1002 spar holes through the skin. Particularly if you have clecos in the trailing edge.

I felt it was most important to keep the trailing edge firmly in place with the trailing edge wedge and made sure that as I final drilled the front and rear spars and the trailing edge that I had a full compliment of clecos in place as I did each section, top and bottom. For example, once I had final drilled the bottom skin, I removed clecos from the spars in the bottom skin so that I had a full compliment in the top skins into the spars as I was final drilling.

There wasn’t much here that is complicated, just really a process of cleco and drill, trying to keep everything as aligned as possible. It does take a lot of cleco exercise.

On a side note, the cleco pliers I had purchased had rubber handles and the rubber on the lower handle kept sliding off so I ended up taping it on. Not ideal, but the sliding off was pretty annoying.
