As of this morning, all the prep on the horizontal stabilizer is complete but I decided to go over the component parts again to make sure the deburring was complete and the countersinking was all completed correctly before scuffing, cleaning and painting.
It’s just as well as I found one hole that had not been countersunk that needed to be countersunk. That would have been very difficult to do one riveting had been started. As a result I went over every countersunk hole with the counter sink bit and my depth guages, the dimpled skin piece and the rivet.
Once I was happy with the deburring I used my trusty rivet squeezer to dimple the nose Hs-905, HS-1004 and 904 rib flanges.
I would say that the prep was near perfect leaving not much to do, apart from cleaning, before spraying the P 60 G2 primer onto the components. I did find a couple of scratches on the inside of the skins I thought best to remove with sand paper. Per previous recommendations, I just used, I think 800, wet and dry and sanded in the direction of the grain in the aluminum sheet.
