RV-10 Tailcone Assembly – Pages 10-21, 22

Continuing with the RV-10 tailcone assembly on pages 10-21 and then 10-22 brings us closer to completing the tailcone and looking forward to final assembly of the empennage.

I began today by replacing a rivet which was going to end up under the F-1014 aft deck. Replacing flush rivets can be a pain if you don’t get the drill bit in the dead centre of the rivet head. If you do get it dead centre then it is much easier to remove the rivet without further enlarging or distorting the hole. This one went OK for me so it was pretty quick. It is critical, in my opinion, to turn the drill chuck by hand until you have a definite centred drill bit. I use a punch plus turn the drill by hand before pressing the drill trigger.

At the end of the day I placed the aft top skin on the frames with a couple of clecos and also had the bellcrank and battery mount installed per the instructions on page 10-23.
